Fixmycrib for AI assistants: our MCP connector
Ask your AI assistant what a new boiler should cost, or to find a local plumber, and it can now use Fixmycrib directly. Our free MCP connector lets assistants read our price guides and send a job request so local tradespeople can quote.
- Free, no account or API key
- Guides in English and Dutch
- Job requests only with your consent
What the connector can do
The connector follows the Model Context Protocol, the open standard AI assistants use to call outside tools. It gives an assistant five tools. Four of them only read information. The fifth sends a job request, and only after you have confirmed the details and agreed to it.
| Tool | What it does | Example request |
|---|---|---|
| search_guides | Searches our guides on home improvement costs, quotes and trades, in English and Dutch, with more languages on the way. | What does cavity wall insulation cost? |
| get_page | Reads a full guide so the assistant can answer detailed questions from it. | Summarise the Fixmycrib boiler quote guide. |
| list_local_trade_pages | Lists our local city pages per trade, such as plumber in Bristol, with local prices and advice. | Show me plumber prices in Leeds. |
| list_job_types | Lists the job types you can request quotes for, such as gas boiler, roof repair or bathroom installation. | Which boiler jobs can I post? |
| request_job_quotes | Sends your job to Fixmycrib so local tradespeople who cover your postcode can contact you with quotes. | Post my job for a new gas boiler in BS1. |
How a job request works through an assistant
A job request through an assistant goes through the same steps as the form on this site. The assistant collects the job type, a short description, your budget, when you want to start, your postcode and your contact details. It must then show you everything and ask for your agreement to share your details and to our terms and privacy policy. Only when you say yes does it send the request. Tradespeople who cover your area can then call or email you with quotes, and you are free to say no to all of them.
We built in a few guard rails. The connector refuses a request unless the assistant confirms you agreed, it checks the postcode and contact details, and it limits how many requests can come from one place. If anything looks wrong, the assistant is told to send you to the job form instead.
How to connect your assistant
Add a custom connector (sometimes called a remote MCP server) in your assistant's settings and paste this endpoint:
https://fixmycrib.co/wp-json/fmc/v1/mcp
The connector uses the Streamable HTTP transport and JSON-RPC 2.0, and needs no authentication. Developers can find a machine readable description at /.well-known/mcp.json and a site summary for language models at /llms.txt.
Why we built it
More homeowners now ask an assistant before they ask a tradesperson. A general assistant often gives vague or outdated prices. With the connector it can quote our guides, which explain what a fair price looks like and what affects it, and then help you get real quotes from people who work in your area. You keep full control: nothing is sent without your yes.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Fixmycrib MCP connector?
It is a small server that follows the Model Context Protocol, the open standard that lets AI assistants use outside tools. Once connected, an assistant can read our home improvement guides and, if you ask it to, send a job request to Fixmycrib for you.
Is it free?
Yes. The connector is free and needs no account or API key, and posting a job is free with no obligation to accept a quote. We apply fair use limits so the service stays reliable.
Can an assistant send my details without asking me?
No. The job request tool only works when the assistant confirms that you have checked the details and agreed to share them. If that confirmation is missing, the request is refused.
Which countries does it cover?
Fixmycrib is growing country by country. Guides and job requests follow the markets where our network of tradespeople is live, and new countries are added as the network grows. If your area is not covered yet, the assistant tells you instead of sending the request.
Which assistants can use it?
Any assistant or agent that supports remote MCP servers over HTTP, including Claude and other MCP compatible clients. You add the endpoint as a custom connector and the tools appear automatically.
What happens after a job request?
Tradespeople who cover your postcode can contact you by phone or email with questions and quotes. Compare them, ask for references, and only agree to work once you have a written quote you are happy with.
